Laduree Inspired Desert Table

Hi Hi,

If you don't know by now, I have a dessert table fetish. Put me in a room with a bunch of props, some sweets, a little Adele and I am in heaven. Working on this next shoot was a serious dream come true. Not only did I work with a group of EXTREMELY talented vendors including miss Caketress herself, I had one of my best friends there to shoot it all. {Monique Simone Photography}.

Laduree is a house of macarons and delish pastries. So delish that standing outside in the freezing cold is completely worth it and spending close to three dollars on a little macarons is also every bit worth it. Everything about the brand makes me swoon so it was only be natural to pay homage and create a sweet table with them at the heart of it. Take a look at all this eye candy. oh and FYI: Amy Atlas the queen of dessert tables herself featured this beautiful table today {check it out}. What a way to share this inspiration with the world. Thank you to everyone included.

With the New Year in full swing and wedding season just around the corner, we are starting to get into the fun stuff. The Designs! This is hands down my favorite part of the whole wedding planning process.

I haven't shared these images yet and so I thought, the perfect blog post would be one that offers a cool colour palette with fresh inspiration for all you quirky couples. Always remember when designing your big day that it has to reflect who you are as a couple and NOT what the magazines say is the big trend. So it's official. 2012 has begun and we can all start breaking our new year's resolutions!! :P
We have so many exciting weddings to design for the upcoming season that we make girly noises daily just thinking about them! Before all that happens though we thought... how about we finally show one of the most romantic weddings we have ever had the pleasure of being a part of?!

It happened in summer 2010 at a hillside sugar shack in the Eastern Townships, in a barn and under a tent. Along side my good friend Monique {Monique Simone Photography}, we spent the day with a couple who by that day had become our friends. We watched them get married, cry, laugh, eat, drink and even go streaking! {seriously, one of the groomsmen... took off ALL items of clothing and ran through the dance floor with all his mama gave him}. Truly an experience we will forever remember!

FYI: This beautiful couple is the duo behind one of my fav cinematography boutiques here in mtl, Eye Heart Films. If you need a video for your wedding that will really be a time-capsule of your love...well...look no further. Call them up! Take a look at their wedding day.

With the holidays in full swing, most of us are busy shopping and spending time with loved ones. I myself just landed in Montreal after a week of soaking up the sun in beautiful Cabo San Lucas and the first thing I did when I got home was... decide to post Farah and Stephane's wedding! Sitting by the fire and looking through some of these detail pictures, I'm reminded of how stunning the Fall season is in Quebec. Here are a few pics of their gorgeous wedding up at the Fairmont Montebello.

One of my favorite details from this wedding was the gorgeous Tea Station we had set out by the ceremony. As guests arrived, they got to pick their favorite tea and pour themselves a cup to keep warm. I love this so much!!

Hi Hi,

When Negar and Gurdip called me, I was so excited to work with them! I knew right away that no matter what, this was a wedding I wanted to be a part of. Being an Iranian girl myself, I was thrilled to finally work with someone who grew up with the same culture, eating the same food, listening to the same music and speaking the same language. I was also super excited to style their sofreh aghd {persian ceremony spread}, which is such an important part of the day. As I was putting together the spread I couldn't help but think of the day where I myself will be walking down the aisle and sitting at my own sofreh! :)

One of the sweetest couples you will ever meet, these guys are really made for each other. The love this man has for his woman is palpable and to have been a part of this big day is something I will always cherish. We had the most incredible weekend up north at one of our last weddings of 2011 and even though I am desperate for sleep, I wanted to share some of the detail pics from Marie-France and Clint's Cocktail Dinatoire this past October.

With a cream and white color palette, this couple wanted to keep everything fresh, clean and romantic. It's not always easy to transform an alternative venue, like this Gallery {Gallery St-Dizier} into a wedding ceremony + reception, but with some creative thinking, we managed to make this venue the perfect spot for this adorable couple's I Do's. Here's an engagement sweet table we did for a local planner a couple of months ago. We sat down with Selina of 'My Montreal Wedding' and her gorgeous client to discuss her needs for sweets. The party was taking place at Cafe Ferreira, a lovely Portuguese hot spot here in Montreal. We were to use a table with blue tiles and a color palette with coral tones, chocolate and golds. Here's what we came up with!

When I met Anna... I pretty much knew we'd be getting along just fine. This uber fashionista is so freaking sweet, I don't know how to explain it to you. She knew she wanted to wow her guests and in the end... WE DID!

Anna came to me with a couple of things booked. A venue {The Metropolitan Golf Course} and a florist {Venus Flowers}. I'm not going to lie, when she gave me her colour palette I was a bit worried. Red, Black and White. When I hear this color combo, the first thing that pops into my mind is... The Wedding Singer {80's wedding decor}. Being the stylish bride that she is, this was obviously not what she had in mind so we put our heads together and voila. Take a peek at Anna & Rai's big day. Oh did I forget to mention Anna wanted red roses? ONLY red roses. She got some. Thousands. Literally.

ps: Amongst a million other entertainers... Karl Wolf Performed at the wedding. So much fun!!

This past weekend we had yet another fabulous wedding and this time it was at L'auberge St-Gabriel. Our very first time working in this space and let me tell you... it was incredible! What a pleasure it was to work in such a romantic and inspiring venue. The details were out of this world and working with my gorgeous bride Stacey and her lovely mother, Debra was a dream come true. Sometimes you meet a clients and you know you will keep them in your life forever. Hind and her lovely mother are two of these people. We planned the wedding decor for Hind's Brother and his beautiful bride to be in two months. Even with the time constraint, I have never felt so relaxed. With such wonderful, loving and appreciative clients, a designer couldn't ask for more. Oh I did get lucky with one other thing- Monique Simone was the photographer and I knew she would BRING it as she always does.

I was so nervous that our couple wouldn't like something {since I actually never even met them!}, but we were thrilled to hear that they were over the moon about their wedding day. Congratulations Haya and Talal!

Marions- Nous 2011 Design: Babies Breath Centerpiece

Hi Hi,

This past labour day weekend, we had two weddings and a wedding show!! Our saturday wedding at the Westin Hotel was so stunning, we decided to tweak the colours a bit {pink a la Azar} and re-create the table top design for our show display. People went nuts over this table. Simple, elegant and oh so romantic!

The use of baby's breath, still shocks people. When you want a big wow factor, but don't have a million dollars to spend, baby's breath is a good alternative. Please don't quote me on its a cheap centerpiece... it's actually NOT {when used in large quantities}, but your money goes a very long way and you are left with a stunner. For you brides who want that big ball effect... please, please, please, keep the fake flower ball centerpieces to a minimum. I cringe. Instead, opt for a more affordable solution that will leave your guests inspired.

It's crazy to think how fast time has flown this year. Our busiest season EVER has come and is still going, but 'tis the time of the year where we are meeting with newly engaged couples for 2012! This past weekend we had 2 gorgeous weddings AND a wedding show. In this case the WE refers to Monique Simone Photography and Principal Planner.

As you may know, Monique is one of my closest and dearest friends. Not only is she my go to person for everything in life, she is an amazing photographer. We worked together all weekend and even shot a creative at the studio today. Basically we are attached at the hip and loving it. Monique and I share a gorgeous studio in Verdun. This sunday we are hosting an open house for all you 2012 couples who are eager to start planning the IT wedding of the year. We are so excited to meet every single one of you! Old Montreal Wedding: Amelie and Daniel

Hi Hi,

August 20th was craaaaaaazy. We had two gorgeous weddings and I'm excited to share one of them with you tonight. Amelie and Daniel came to us with a modern + clean vision for their big day. The only problem was that they had booked a venue that was ALLLLL wrong. After explaining the importance of the event space to them- they trusted us and moved their dream wedding to the Scena in Old Montreal. This is a decision these two love birds will never regret. Simple and perfect centerpieces from the girls over at O.xide Design, Stationary by Chandelier Blanc, Cookie Favours by L&V Sweets and my awesome team made this wedding everything A+D had ever wanted.

Principal Planner created a beautifully detailed wedding to fit them perfectly.

Secrets from the planning process: Daniel had a soft spot for our sweet tables. He wanted one created for them that would really wow their guests so we really BROUGHT it for him. The night went on without a single hitch and we are proud to have been there every step of the way. Congratulations go out to both of you. New Montreal Dessert Table Rentals

Ladies and gentlemen,

Montreal is lacking in a few departments. One of them is rentals of cake stands and dessert table props. Its a shame when you pay hundreds of dollars for a gorgeous wedding cake, only to have it sitting on a table resting on a measly little cake board.... don't even get me started on those silver bases. (ugh) I'm done people.

For years now I have been buying stands, plates and beautiful props. A room full of pretty things and the boyfriend is starting to wonder about me. So I started to think- every wedding deserves beautiful details and now you have somewhere to go get them. In a few weeks we will be launching our new rentals. You will be able to order and have shipped to your events. Sweet tables and cakes will never be the same. Montreal- you are about to get even prettier.

Saturday Principal Planner had two beautiful weddings. Our team was split between The Scena + The Loft Hotel. { both gorgeous venues}
Today I spent the day sleeping, but when I woke up {at 4pm}, my bff Monique Simone Photography had already dropped some gorgeous pictures into our folder. Hi Hi,

What day is it?? Lately, the lack of sleep has made it hard to pin point what day of the week it is. I'm kidding (not really). :p

Even with the sleep deprivation, swollen feet and massive headaches, a couple of things are for sure. There is nothing more fulfilling in this world to me than to see my clients get married. Seeing them all dolled up on the big day never seizes to send me into the ugly cry. That's number one- but a close second is their eyes when they walk into their reception... (my fav part). Months of hard work, all the details pulled together, lights on, candles lit. Its an amazing feeling that I can't quite explain. A few weeks ago we had the serious pleasure of taking part in Ashley + Ben's wedding. A couple I met last year and whom I fell in love with immediately. Not only are they ridiculously good looking, they are sweet as pie. I'm sad that the planning is over now and that they are moving on with their lives. :'(, but we will never forget each other or the incredible day we had on July 23rd, 2011 at the Loft Hotel.

This year, I have not only found amazing clients, I also made a few new friends. Two of which literally live a few blocks away from my house. Bartek and Magda are two of a kind. It is really not everyday that you meet people who are down to earth, funny as hell, giving, caring... what other descriptive words can I throw in here?! A power photo couple, these two are so perfect for each other. If I were planning their 2nd wedding, I'd even let them have 'perfect pear' salt and pepper shaker favors. (never, would i ever do that, but you know where I'm going with this) I love them. Take a look at these amazing pictures of Ashley and Ben's big day.

Hi Hi,

What would I be doing at 9am on Sunday the day after one of our weddings? No, not sleeping- writing a blog post!!!

This morning I got a text from my florist wanting to know how the night had rolled out. He does this after every wedding and it seems to always be very early the next day. lol. If it were anyone else, I would be writing about how much I wanted to punch them, but with Paul, it finally inspired a post about how fabulous he is. So today is now Principal Planner- vendor appreciation day.

My main and fabulous florist: Fleurs Des Jardins

There is nothing like finding a vendor to work with week after week that quickly turns into a friend. It has happened to me on different occasions, but with Paul, there's something else about him that just makes you feel lucky to have him in your life. He is kind, hilarious, stylish, one half of a beautiful couple and of course... a great floral designer. Fleurs des jardins is run by someone who cares more about his clients then most do about... well ANYTHING. You are priority and he puts his blood, sweat and tears into every single one of the projects he takes on. I can go on for pages, but I want to crawl back into bed. :)

Montreal Real Wedding: Lisa and Pierre

Hello peeps,

It wasn't long after I had met Lisa and Pierre that they were walking through one of my weddings at Entrepot Dominion to help them find a perfect fit venue. Almost a year later, it hit me when I was placing the bathroom baskets, (oddly enough) that it was the actual day we had been planning for so many months. If you don't already know this, I am emotionally invested in my clients and so the BIG day is always a special one for me (such a cry baby!) When I saw Lisa at the ceremony, I could hardly keep it together, but when the music hit play and it was her turn to walk down the aisle.... I lost it!

A word about the photogs. I can't stress enough, the importance of hiring an amazing photographer for your wedding. When the nights all wrapped up and the last guest has stumbled out... you'll want much more than the drunken pictures your friends snapped throughout the night. HIRE SOMEONE GREAT. Yes it is expensive, but a wedding just is. Don't cut corners when it comes to the most important aspect of the wedding. Documenting it! Hellllloooo!

Lisa and Pierre hired Blushing Bride Studios. Good call. These guys did an awesome job. and are such a pleasure to work with. Head by Chelsea Gray, the company is young, energetic and really great at what they do. Take a look at some of the images from the wedding.

Montreal Wedding Week

Hi Hi,

I was in and out of sleep all day today...with a little shopping in the middle (a bit of an after wedding tradition). This week has been a big one for us at Principal Planner. With 4 events (all leading up to Saturday's big wedding), starting with a rehearsal dinner at Bunanotte, a welcome cocktail at Restaurant L'autre Version, a rooftop cocktail at the Nelligan Hotel and the wedding itself at the Loft Hotel. Ummm... I'm tired just writing all that out. ouf!

I felt inspired to write a little post today about how it all went. The couple arrived from NYC on sunday with guests following suit as of Monday. From the welcome baskets to every detail leading us up to the main event, this couple did not cut any corners when it came to wowing their friends who flew out from all corners of the world.

Every event went without a single glitch and the main event was so incredibly amazing that I really can't get over it. I wanted to write everyone and formally thank all the vendors who were a part of making this all happen. My team, (girls.. you know who you are) never seizes to amaze me. We work for days at a time on each event and sometimes they are running around for up to 18 hours and they NEVER say a single thing. (seriously)

Anyways.. enough talk. A huge thank you to the LOFT hotel, Celebrations(rentals), Fleurs Des Jardins, Lorena Rossi (stationary + favours), The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth (catering), Kostar (lighting), Paul Chacra's 1945 (band), Paul Chacra Entertainment (trio+dj), Sucré by Principal Planner (dessert table), Luisa Galuppo (cake), and Phototerra (photographer) for a night made for the books. Wow.

Montreal Real Wedding: Justin And Nancy

So... we started off the year with a wedding that is very close to my heart. When I first met Justin and Nancy... well... it was love at first sight. Literally, the actual sight of this couple made my heart skip a beat. By now, if you read this thing, you know that they are the quirky couple with amazing style. Their vintage inspired wedding was just last weekend and I cannot wait to share all the great images from the day. For now, here's a little sneak peak of one table. {every one was a little different, but equally adorable!} PS: you really should have seen the scene at the dessert table reveal. Their guests went Paparazzi on it and it was definitely a sight to see. Ahhhh.. definitely a Night to remember ;)

Montreal Wedding Planner: First Photoshoot

Hello there,

As you know, the new site is going to be launched in a short few weeks and as I'm going through all my images, I came across a few that brought me way back. {And put a smile on my face}

Let me tell you something. When I first started my company in 2007, I was told by my 'mentor' that I was not ready, too young, not experienced... basically I was told that it wasn't a good idea. I remember that was tough to hear, but the truth is, we all have those moments in our life that we one day look back at. They make us stronger and actually push us to build mountains to climb. My advice to anyone thinking of taking a leap of faith (whether business related or personal), block out the noise and build a sea of mountains. Nothing of worth is easy to attain, so roll up your sleeves and just go for it.

The point of this post isn't to announce that I am the next Tony Robbins, but rather to share another little tidbit about myself. When I took that leap, I thought to myself... what about a portfolio? How am I going to sell myself? Easy. I'll make one. I set up my very first photoshoot to show my future clients what I was capable of. Obviously, looking back, I'm like Woah... change this, change that, oh god what were you thinking with this colour or that cutlery...lol. In hindsight, it was quite great for my first time at it and since, I have become a bit obsessed with creative shoots. Over the years I have had opportunities to work along some of the industries finest, but this shoot, will forever be my most memorable. I thought I'd share a couple of pictures with you. (circa 2007)

So here you go and for all the haters... hate on. We're doing quite fine I'd say. ;)

For the Out of Town Brides...

Hi Hi people,

I've been talking about my website re-design so much, I want to take a minute to formally tell myself to zip it! Let's talk about something else for a second... how about the weather? the royal wedding? the upcoming wedding season? NO NO and NO! Let's talk about out of towners who choose to get married in Montreal.

I'm always a bit bummed for the couples who don't live here while we plan their big day. Far away and usually swamped with work, it's hard to make them feel as if they are completely part of the whole process. I had to put a stop to all the madness, so I decided that I would set up photoshoots for certain design elements throughout the process for them. Why? Simply put... I'm visual. SO visual, that I just can't imagine how others do things without actually mocking them up. It also allows my clients (who most often are just as visual), to really get what's being created for them. Another reaction they get is EXCITEMENT! I always get the holy S**t's when we send them these fancy pics. Once that's done, they get actual samples to feel and touch... it makes things fun.

Tidbit about me time!!! For years I have had a weird fetish for great advertising! I can sing a million random jingles, recite commercial lines and remember brand tag lines like nobody's business! Here are two of my favorites:

'Wait 'til we get our Haines on you' {you know it! sing it to yourself} SOOOO genius!

'Shut the front door' {this is a new one from a new cookie commercial... the woman reacts by saying this after she tastes a delicious cookie- frankly I LOL'ed for 5 minutes straight when I heard it}

So what, who cares? well my point is that....just like Nike has JUST DO IT, or MacDonald's has I'M LOVIN IT and Maybeline has MAYBE SHE'S BORN WITH IT... I figured, it would only make sense that Principal Planner had one too. I thought it out and here it is. Our new tag line is very fitting for what to expect when hiring us

A new Day, A new Look

Hi Hi!

I'm BACK! Usually I don't grace you with two posts in two days, but i really cannot contain myself. The new logo is all done and I want to introduce it to the world! First of all, the man behind this design is a seriously talented graphic designer. Right off the bat when you meet Justin, you can tell just how cool he is from the clothes he sports.

I have the pleasure of designing his wedding {in May} and getting to know him and his awesome Fiance, Nancy. Next week we will be posting the wedding invitation that Justin designed for his big day on bride Scouts blog. I can't EVEN wait for their wedding that will be insanely detailed and simply beautiful!

A new Logo? WHY NOT?!

Hi Hi,

The first miracle of the day is that I am writing this blog while most people living in my time zone are still awake. Usually these things happen at 3am over at Principal Planner. So high five for writing at a decent time! The second miracle is that I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel of sleep deprivation! High five on that end too!

Today's topic is about my brand new logo. Some people would say that you should never change your logo. Be consistent. Something about awareness and retention... blah blah blah. I SAY: people change, businesses evolve and if you feel like you are in a transition... run with it. {another point- I'm not Coca Cola so i really don't think it matters all that much :p}

This is precisely what is happening behind closed doors over here. Although we love our look right now, I feel it is not fully representative of the image we want to portray. If you follow our blogs or know me personally, you are aware by now that Principal Planner's number one approach is playful! After-all, we are in the business of planning parties! Why shouldn't we focus on making the planning process a fun and easy one for our clients?!

Our new logo {being designed by one of our incredibly talented grooms}, is shaping up to be the perfect fit! I can't wait to show you!! (just a few more days until the reveal)

Principal Planner's newest name tweak!

Hi Hi,

With wedding season around the corner, I really wonder about myself sometimes. At the very moment when things are about to get insane, I decide- how about we:

A: flip our house {seriously do not try this at home!!!!}

B: embark on a series of creatives {ok this is my fav thing.. not gonna lie}

C: change our whole website {the time had really come for it!}

YUP! all of the above and pretty much all with the same deadline. June 1st. Soooo, can we do it? Here's hoping YES.

I'm not letting any secrets out of the bag just yet, but one thing I will say is that our name -Principal Planner- is getting a little tweak as well. Before I say it, let me explain:

Growing up with a name like Azar has not been easy. Sure if I lived in Iran, it would be common, but here in good old Canada.. not so much. NO ONE says it properly, but over the year's I have learned to just respond to pretty much anything with an A, R, Z and sometimes even Y in it. When I started my company back in '07, I named it Principal Planner to avoid any confusion. Now that the year's have gone by and peeps are starting to get familiar with us, I've decided, It's time to step out of the shadow and put my name out there for the world to see. So The new Principal Planner will be:

It's me again!

Ok so here's what's up this week. A few weeks back, for reasons we will keep unsaid, I was feeling a little steam coming out of my ears and pretty sure, my nose too! Sooo, since i was sitting on the couch at my good friend Elyna Kudish's loft, a sudden thought came to mind.

We decided to embark on a creative project together. Not for anything, but to prove that we can all just be friends after all. Competition is good until it is no longer healthy. Not every move is about how much money it will bring in or 'up- ing' your competition. Sometimes, we can do things, simply because they are fun!

Don't get me wrong. We're hardly sipping on mojitos over at Principal Planner and Unity Weddings ! (elyna's event planning company). Things are craaaaazy busy, BUT, we couldn't help ourselves.

Monday morning, we'll be shooting an amazing design. A design concept which is simply put, a coming together of two distinctively different signature styles. Two designers, lots of coffee, quite a bit of pasta, some markers, paper and hours later... what did we come up with?? oh... stay tuned.

ps: The freaking amazing and almost happily married Davina + Daniel will be shooting.

A Chance Encounter... Sabrina & Alex

Hello Thursday night,

Every year I meet so many awesome couples, families and even cherished pets. By the time wedding day comes around, I find myself feeling like I'm one of them! (Seriously, I'm a bit crazy like that)

Today's mini glimpse has a funny story behind it. Growing up in Beaconsfield, my mother called dibbs on her 'dream house' located right up the street from ours. She used to walk by it and every time, point out how much she loved it... Well, imagine my surprise and excitement when I found out THAT VERY HOUSE belongs to the seriously fun parents of one of my brides-to-be!!! I texted my mom immediately and let me tell you... we had a moment! That alone was freaking amazing, but what was even better was meeting one of the sweetest couples you could dream of and being a part of their big day.

Baby It's Still Cold Outside...

What do you REALLY look like?

Mirror Mirror on the wall... what the heck do I look like?

You know what happens to me when I meet um... almost 90 percent of my clients for the first time? We didn't recognize you... You don't look anything like your picture. Two ways of taking this.

1. You are much better looking in person

2. You are not so good looking in person

Either option seems like a FAIL. I was just interviewed by an Iranian Newspaper and when I sent over a picture of myself as they requested, I received this as a reply:

"can u send a photo that's cool, funky, youthful, more energetic... sheitoon tar!!" (sheitoon tar means- a little more playful) in other words: You don't look anything like your picture!!

If you have worked with me or know me on a personal level, you know that I'm a bit funny, a lot crazy and totally crushing on my job. Definitely loud, a rule breaker and the opposite of the picture perfect etiquette obsessed wedding planner you may have seen in the movies.

As much as I'd like to think I roll out of bed looking manicured and runway ready, the reality is, 9 out of 10 times, I open my eyes, answer 100 emails, get in my car, get coffee, get to destination. get to next destination. arrive home after 9:00 PM. sit in front of desk. work. pass out. and repeat. There never seems to be time to look like that fairy-tale wedding planner.

All this to get to my tidbit of the night. Tomorrow I am shooting a more... "me" photo. Hopefully the next time people see me, they say something like this:

"You look pretty much exactly like your pic. Do you have another outfit?" :p

SO I'm Bored...

Dear Internet,

It's nearly 1am and I find myself filled with excitement. I should really keep all of this hush, hush, but.... WHO cares?! Principal Planner is going through a big re-design. Seriously, a complete overhaul and this town hasn't see the likes of what we are working on!

{Flash Back to 2007}

When I first started my company, I was so clueless. I knew I needed a website and I wanted it to be fabulous. I hired a photography, (who shall remain nameless) who came highly recommended to create it for me. The price tag came in at about 5000.00 for everything. Imagine my surprise when a few months later, I came across a little site called BLU DOMAIN (web templates). Well well well, my 'custom' website was playing right in front of my eyes and it had a price tag on it! (A whopping 100$)

I was heartbroken. Couldn't believe that someone could do that to me, but it was then that I realized, so many of the people you will deal with in business are cut from that same cloth. (My advice to anyone reading is that, nothing feels better than honesty. Always the best policy and the finest road to success.)

{Present day 2011}

Last year I decided to update my look and even had some pretty amazing dye cut cards made. I stayed with the Bludomain site (after all, I DID pay 5000 for this thing!) Recently I met an extremely talented lady who I knew was my perfect fit for "Operation Principal Planner Face-Lift". We are working on the new... EVERYTHING and I'm so excited to share. Launching Spring 2011.

Dear Internet,

February brings tax season and it is at this time of the year where I really sit back and think of what has happened in the last 12 months. 2010 was an incredible year for Principal Planner, not only measured by the freaking amazing clients we had, but also in all the projects we took part in, friends we've gained and a very big personal milestone. December 6th brought my first official 'SELF-EMPLOYED' year and for that, 2010 will always be a special year for me!

As I prep to dish over what is owed to her heiness the government, I wanted to say hello and a very belated happy new year to all. Principal Planner is excited for the many projects, new additions and ridiculously good looking couples of 2011. We're gearing up for our best year yet!

C+C's simply chic wedding

hi hi,

Claudine and Colin are just amazing. These two are hilarious, down to earth, a ton of fun...the list goes on and on. Basically, people you just want to hang around all the time! I had the pleasure of working with the duo for the better part of a year and for it to be all done is both weird and a tad sad. :(

These guys were all about the party. Claudine is not into flowers. As a matter of fact she specifically asked that there were NONE at the wedding. If you know me, you know I am OBSESSED with flowers sooo I freaked! In the end, she held a beautiful bouquet and we even had some flowers for the cocktail! lol

The wedding was a huge success and probably one of the funnest crowds I've ever seen. We kept the design, clean, simple and very chic. Here's a peak into the reception.

*Lighting was a huge factor at this shindig. We changed the mood of the room throughout the evening and had a lot of fun with it. The white made the place look like heaven and it was my personal fav!

The photo you see in the middle of the table is an image taken of Colin's parents on their wedding day. We had it doubled on both sides so that Colin and his family could feel both their presence from all around the room. It was beautiful.

Sweet Sara & Mat

Sara and Mat had been together for over a decade when Monsieur finally proposed! These two are so adorable and I was thrilled to be a part of their big day. PS: On the day of the wedding, these two love birds decided to put me on the spot (i died a little). During their thank you speech, they called me onto the dance floor and read out all my information, including my facebook fan page address and twitter handle! so funny/very sweet.

A Petite Company Called Petite Fête

July has been beyond busy. I'm so happy/blessed to be a part of so many amazing weddings and projects, but this next one is very close to my heart. When I was asked to help create this new company, I was thrilled!

Only a crazy person would take on a project like this one with a deadline that was near impossible, SMACK in the middle of wedding season. Two words: I'm CRAZY! We have designed an exclusive line of desserts with our friends over at Dolci Piu for all you Montrealers who are looking for something different. The recent trends in Dessert Styling have hit events everywhere and Montreal seems to have been left in the wind...SO... I decided it was time to offer a service that was both visually appealing and tasty! We will be offering adorable bit sized cake pops, candy apples, specialty candies, macarons, cupcakes, mousses, truffles... SO MUCH! (FYI: I'm gonna need to hit the gym ASAP!)

It is official! There's a new blog on the block and it goes by the name Bride Scouts. As mentioned in my last couple of posts ;), I have ventured into project number 1 million and will now be writing daily posts about Canadian Weddings. For anyone who is out there. You may have just stumbled upon my site, you may be a client, a friend, a fan.. whoever... thanks for visiting. Why do I have a blog? real simple: Sometimes I have something to say to the world. Most times wedding related, sometimes completely random.

Recently I came across a post that caught my attention so I thought i'd write a little somethin somethin. It was about blogging. The message was loud and clear. Basically, Publish or Perish. Here's my response to that:

Focus your blog posts on positive and interesting reads/finds/original ideas. It is not necessary to write every day nor is it possible for most busy people. If you are sitting at your desk and writing away daily... you either blog as a full-time job, just have a whole lot to say or you are simply posting for the sake of a new post + blog activity.

My take is:
Write when you feel inspired and never because its a must. All these fun internet toys (blogs, facebook, twitter..) weren't created to impose a million rules upon its users, but rather allow us all to connect, speak out and have fun. Don't take everything too seriously. Do what you love, say what you want and you will succeed.

Hi Everyone!

As a wedding Planner in Canada, I literally live and breathe all things wedding. I meet with many different couples, vendors and colleagues who are equally in love with this whole world. One thing that I have found is that Canada is lacking in power when it comes to online and off-line wedding inspiration. Our friends in the USA have an overwhelming number of wedding blogs, websites and talent, that it makes you think... Does Canada have just as much talent or is it a must to go south of the border to find the best. Well, I know for a fact that we are equally talented, innovative and hungry. Our artists, photographers, videographers, designers and bridal couturiers are simply lacking in one department...THE PLATFORMS to showcase all their immense talent. Where there are countless magazines and blogs in the US, Canada only has a handful.

We at Principal Planner, along with our good friend Monique (Monique Simone Photography) have decided to jump on board with the few and create an amazing blog where Canadian vendors can show off their craft and Canadian Brides can explore what their country has to offer them. We will also be showcasing a few amazing finds from around the world, but the majority of our content will be MADE IN CANADA ;)

The Blog is called Bride Scouts and we are tagging it 'The Trendsetting Bridal Manifesto for the Wedding Obsessed'. We are addicted to what we see right here in Canada on a day to day and we hope you'll tune in and pick up our addiction. The blog will be up and running March 27th.

Hi!

All the work at the studio, company branding and new clients have kept us very busy this past little while. We are so thrilled to be working with such amazing clients for our 2010 wedding season! After every contract signing, I always wonder how I get so lucky to meet the coolest couples! Beautiful inside and out, Principal Planner clients always have: the best stories to tell, a great sense of humor and loads in common with ME! I can't tell you how excited I am about these upcoming weddings!! We have lavish affairs for 400+ (Tanya.. ;) ), a perfect wedding of 75, gallery weddings...

We are also in the midst of updating our site with our new logo, pictures and well.. just freshening up! Here's a preview.. :) I'm hoping to have it up by the end of next week.. (fingers crossed)

This past September we had the pleasure of being a part of Natasha and Piragash's wedding. With Natasha living in Vancouver and Piragash in Seattle, the planning process was really something else! Not only did we fall in love with this amazing couple, but also had the pleasure of meeting some of their family members who we will always remember!

Here's a little sample of what I'm talking about:

At the ceremony, just as the guests were taking their seats, Natasha's father made a point of introducing me to many of his closest friends and family. A Groom's Gift Of Eternal Love

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of planning a wedding for 250 guests at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Montreal. Friends and family gathered to witness Viviane and Hai's special day and the evening was a great success. During the planning process I received an email from Hai asking me if I could help him surprise Viviane. His idea was to place 999 pink roses in their bridal suite! To offer 999 roses symbolizes eternal love. Due to the fact that the room had to be ready for the bride before she arrived to get into her second of 4 dresses, we had to arrange them to ensure ample space for everyone to get ready. When Viviane walked in and read the note Hai had left her, there wasn't a dry eye in the room.

When you get engaged you start getting really excited about every detail of this milestone day that is really going to be all about you! You run out and grab every magazine in the pharmacy, google images until you fall asleep at the computer and start creating these enormous binders that you carry with you to every meeting you go. I love every second of experiencing those things with my clients. There are 22 000 weddings every year in beautiful Montreal and although I don’t have the honor of assisting all of you blushing brides, I’d like to do something to enjoy a bigger piece of this amazing pie so... Mini Seminars are officially born.

We will be holding mini seminar evenings at our brand new studio with themes ranging from The Ultimate Cake Tasting to DIY Floral arrangements that will leave anyone envious of your newly perfected/born talent! (Even if you won’t actually be creating these pieces...you are a bride this year and everything weddings is fun!!) So Brides, Bridesmaids, Montreal Vendors, if you are interested in our soon to be launched line up of mini seminars, send us an email and we’ll put you on the list! Invitation Nightmare!

When you're getting married, one major thing you work on with your designer is the invitations that will be sent to your guests. Obvious. Ok, next, you go over all the wording with your stationary designer. You can choose from an array of pre-written texts, go traditional, modern, draft your own... What you absolutely CANNOT do is write the following at the very bottom of the invite:

Cash Gifts Preferred...

Simply reading those three words as I was typing them made me cringe. Some of you may think, who would do that... Well ladies and gents, my mother has been invited to a wedding this summer and she wanted to show me how pretty the invitation was. As I looked over it, I thought it was very pretty... then the above mentioned nightmare occurred. I could stress the importance of leaving this information out, but I wouldn't know where to stop. So RULE: Don't mention anything about gifts, let alone, cash specific requests.

If you are getting married and would like to receive cash, the best way in my opinion is to spread the word amongst your parents, bridal party and closest family members. We all have microwaves and dishes already and you may really just want cold hard cash, however, remember that gifts should be appreciated not be expected.

Baby Shower Cake Obsession

Hey!!

I'm planning a baby shower in a few weeks and while surfing the net to get inspired, I came across the most adorable cake I think I've ever laid eyes on. I had to share it with everyone right away! The theme of the shower is now inspired by and designed around the pictures you see!

I read in Elegant Bride something that really agrees with me.

"Do you remember the scene from " Father of The Bride " when Annie is asked to choose the cake first, before anything else- It makes me believe that the cake really is a window into the soul of a wedding" E-I-C Elegant Bride

The only difference for me is that I find this to be true of any event you design. A cake and its style speak a million words for the people who chose it. So get inspired by yourself and make a statement with your cake at your next party!

Ever since the candy bar craze has hit events everywhere, we have gone crazy for them. Everything from gourmet jelly beans, color co-ordinated M&M's, lollipops and more have been spotted. It is quite simple that guests enjoy seeing a great candy display and satisfying that sweet tooth. So... Now that we have done all that, why not move forward and put a little twist into the good old candy buffet. Being Iranian, I grew up eating Pashmak (Persian Fairy Floss) which can somewhat we compared to Cotton Candy. The texture of Persian Fairy Floss is very silky and almost resembles wool. It can be displayed rather beautifully and your guests will be thrilled at the exhilerating taste and delicacy. Also, consider offering your guest Turkish Delights that come in an array of colors and flavors that will have everyone talking. Another suggestion would be to place some gourmet marshmallows in there for the look (they are amazing) and of course the very interesting flavours. I suggest looking beyond the "usual" candy bar stock and offering a unique experience to the taste buds!

Time to Budget!

Now that you have decided on the overall feel of the wedding you need to sit down and go through the logistics of the budget. It is crucial to plan this step out as detailed as possible and always keep in mind that overlooked expenses will surely come up. Allocate some funds to what we ill call the "what if" section. Creating a budget is easy, sticking to it is the part you will have to work hard on. You must commit to sticking with it and I promise you will be thrilled that you did! Add on's and spontaneous purchases will drive your costs way up and can easily cause stress and conflict between you and your groom.

Step 1: Get yourself a binder, notebook or self-planner organiser to keep you on track.

* Make all your lists, take your notes, add pictures you find in magazines, keep business cards, contracts, virtually everything together to avoid losing any ideas or documents related to the wedding!

**Remember to keep copies of important documents and contracts or originals in a safe place. If you feel you lose things easily, invest in a safety deposit box at your bank. This will usually cost you around 60$ per year.

Step 2: Create a list of what you will need to make this wedding happen. Will you need a seperate ceremony site or will the ceremony take place in the same venue as the reception. Photographer, videographer, florist, rental company, caterer, beverages... Here's a site that has your list made for you to make your life a little less stressful.

The important task here is to prioritize your list. Discuss and make decisions on the most important things on your list for you. Step 5: Allocate amount to each item on your now prioritized list.

Step 6: Visit vendors, with all your questions and concerns, making sure to always keep notes on their answers and prices. You want to visit as many vendors as possible to compare both price and quality.
* These are items to keep in your book. You will be able to refer back to each go-see very easily with this method and your decision will be that much simpler.

Step 7: Keep record of estimated cost and actual price throughout this process. Also, after every purchase, refer back to the checklist and estimated cost to see if you are still on track. This way, if you have gone above what you had thought, you could cut back somewhere else or dip into the "what if" funds!

Always hire professionals rather than cutting back and getting your aunt to videotape the event. You wil have no one to blame, but yourself if it doesn't turn out.
Get everything in writing! Contracts should detail every aspect of what was agreed upon between you and the vendor. This way you will have no surprises on the wedding day!
Pay with credit cards whenever you can incase of a dispute with a vendor.

So here's a little exciting news... I am now newly engaged! Very happy, excited and a little nervous. It's funny how the tables turn and now I need someone to whisper sweet nothings into my ear to calm me down. :) I have exactly 339 days to go until the big day and I am all geared up and ready to plan!

I thought it would be fun to keep you updated every step of the way and let you watch the planning of my wedding unfold step by step! This will also act as the sequel to the last blog where we practiced how to stay calm and remember the bigger picture which is that the wedding is great, but the days to come are most important so stressing out over the details isn't necessary.

So let's take off where we left off. "He proposed, I'm composed, Now what?"

Now is the fun part where you sit and think about the feel of the wedding. What have you always envisioned? Start thinking of the style and overall theme if you would, of the day. I have decided that for myself it will be a modern twist on the Renaissance era. Reminiscent of that time, i will use deep blues and whites to create a royal feel to the event. You want this day to be a reflection of you and your groom, so dedicate some time to this process and jot all of your ideas down. Once you brainstorm and find the feel, you'll just know and think... that's so me!

Remember, this step will act as the platform to all of the activities and details to come, so think hard and commit to something that you will both love!

So he poped the question and you said yes. Now the planning begins and this can be quite overwhelming. With a simple click of your mouse, the internet world, though you think will simplify your life, makes it even more confusing. Magazines, self-planner books, celebrity styles, trends...There are a million sites out there, even more books and enormous amounts of ideas for this and that! So what's a bride to do? To begin, breathe and remember that you are the happiest girl in the world and you have finally found your one and only. This in itself is all you need. The wedding, although an important day, is not what will make your marriage. Focus on all the great things you have with your significant other and everytime you feel you may step off the edge with all the details, step back, breathe and remember... you found the one and you are happy. The day will pass, leaving amazing memories, but more importantly your future together is just beginning.

If all else fails, call up your wedding planner and she'll recite this whole speech over and over. ;) So next time, your mother tells you that you must invite uncle Buck who you never even knew exsisted or the venue you had your eye on is booked, brush it off your shoulder and smile. This day will be perfect no matter what.

Baby Boy...

The day turned out to be a beautiful one and this baby shower is truly one for the books. Our day started off with a warm sunshine which was a great relief seeing that the night before we had a thunder shower! Friends and family gathered at Tammy’s house (Reanne’s Sister) for a backyard surprise. The décor was comfortable chic, teal hues, lime and orange centerpieces were a refreshing change from the traditional pastel blue. Guests welcomed mom to be and dined on a tasty buffet. Impossible to resist, the candy bar was a great ending to a beautiful and memorable day. We wish Reanne all the best with her newborn baby boy.
